MORE THAN 8 600 GOLD COAST FAMILIES WORSE OFF UNDER CHILDCARE CHANGES

June 11, 2018

The clock is ticking on the introduction of Malcolm Turnbull’s new childcare package, which will leave more than 8,600 Gold Coast families worse off.

The Gold Coast in particular will be hit hard by these changes, which are coming into effect on July 2.

Of the top ten electorates in Queensland worse off under the new system, two are on the Gold Coast.

The electorate of Forde has the third highest number of families impacted in the state with a staggering 2,999 families or 1 in 4 hit. The electorate of Fadden clocks in at the seventh highest, with 2,388 families or 1 in 5 to be affected.

Across Australia 279,000 families are looking to lose out, with 176,000 of those families in the two lowest combined family income brackets.

Why are the Federal Government punishing families that need help the most?

The rollout of Malcolm Turnbull’s childcare package has also come under scrutiny in Budget Estimates, where it was revealed that 43 per cent of Australian families, and 30 per cent of providers, are yet to register for the childcare package.

It was also revealed that the IT system and software has not even finished the testing stage yet, let alone been rolled out.

The rollout of this package has been a shambles from the beginning and will hurt families that need help the most.

Unfortunately Gold Coast MPs like Bert Van Manen have been silent on this issue, despite his electorate being one of the hardest hit by the changes.

Mr Van Manen has chosen to put Malcolm Turnbull over struggling families in his community.

It’s about time Mr Van Manen actually stand up and put his community first.

A FAIR GO FOR AUSTRALIA
