MORRISON GOVERNMENT BREAKS AGED CARE PROMISE TO CQ

Central Queensland seniors are missing out on crucial aged care beds, because of a broken promise from the Morrison Government. In 2017, the Government promised 70 new aged care beds for Gladstone seniors and almost five years later, locals are still waiting for action.

This $4.5 million commitment from the Government was supposed to be part of an Australian-first project that would “reinvent” aged care in Gladstone. But after a private financier pulled out the 70 aged care promise went quiet. Five years after the promise was made, nothing has been done – not a bit of dirt dug, not a single bed delivered.

This is a cruel hoax on Central Queensland seniors and is another example of Prime Minister Scott Morrison making announcements and then not delivering.
Older Australians helped build this country. They worked hard, paid their taxes and raised their families. They rightly expected the Morrison Government would support them in their frailer years.

There is a desperate need for more aged care beds in Central Queensland.

Recent data shows more than one hundred aged care beds have been lost in regional Queensland in the last year, as 24 residential facilities closed across the country.
These devastating closures have forced seniors to move away from their families and hometowns to access adequate aged care.

The Morrison Government’s response to the aged care crisis and the Royal Commission falls way short of where it needs to be.

The Government has fobbed off, delayed or outright rejected key recommendations that are important to improving care, nutrition, transparency, staffing and more.

Central Queensland seniors deserve better from their Federal Government and that’s exactly what an Albanese Labor Government will do.
