WILL LANDRY JOIN OTHER NATIONALS TO SPLIT WITH TURNBULL AND STOP LABOUR HIRE RORTS?

July 20, 2018

Michelle Landry should join other National Party representatives, split from Malcolm Turnbull, and back Labor’s proposals to stop labour hire exploitation.

Today, reports show that NSW and Victorian Nationals have split with the Coalition and are following Labor’s lead, belatedly showing their support for a national labour hire licensing scheme.

Labor has been calling on the Turnbull Government to introduce such a scheme for months. But so far Malcolm Turnbull, backed in by Michelle Landry and the LNP, have refused.

In fact, Michelle Landry is so out of touch that she keeps telling us that casualisation and labour hire aren’t a problem.

With other Nationals showing they are prepared to stand up to Mr Turnbull, Ms Landry is running out of excuses.

Ms Landry must decide today whether she will keep backing in Malcolm Turnbull and big business, or actually stand up for labour hire workers in Central Queensland.

It is disgraceful that Michelle Landry could represent Capricornia, an electorate where dodgy labour hire and casualisation are serious and devastating issues, and continue to ignore Labor’s calls for action.

At the moment, there are too many workers in Central Queensland subject to unfair labour hire practices, often treated like second class citizens with lower wages, worse conditions and no job security.

Labor doesn’t want to wait until Malcolm Turnbull calls an election to ensure workers are treated fairly. We want it to happen now.

The time for excuses is over. Landry and her colleagues must join the Victorian and NSW Nationals, to back in Labor’s labour hire reforms, right now.

A FAIR GO FOR AUSTRALIA
